Markets do not go straight up or straight down. During the bottom process there are many opportunities to build a position using synthetic Hedged futures. A single starting position is normally adequate unless the account balance is large.

This is the true test of any tool you use to manage your risk. Day to day vigilance is mandatory but should not conflict with your long term view point.
